Grandpa

Today is the 3 year anniversary of my Grandpa's (on my dad's side) death. He was the first of my grandparents to pass away, followed by my Mom's Mom last year. My Grandpa was a really great man who accomplished a lot in his life. He was a farmer, pilot in WWII, state senator, and started the business that my Dad and his brothers now run. In the summer of 2004, he found out he had lung cancer (he stopped smoking 30yrs ago). He went downhill pretty quickly and shortly after Christmas that year was moved to a hospice facility. I was luckily enough to be able to spend some time with him during his last couple of days. When he passed away, a lot of us were in the room with him. We knew the time was coming so they called in the priest who said a prayer and he passed away during the prayer. I was really sad to lose him, but was relieved that he was not in pain anymore. Here is a picture of him with my Grandma from about a year before he died. It's not the best picture, but the only one I could find on my computer. My Grandma just turned 83 last week.
